Good to see somebody(ies) reporting; check out U Catch for your elite trends and reports. I’m interested to see what other content they churn out, especially now as the big tourneys wrap up and we move into a month of relatively quiet sectionals matchups.

Speaking of sectionals, I’m off to Lancaster this weekend. No real preview necessary; the easy goal is to make regionals. Slightly harder, but very doable, is doing so with the 2nd-place bid. Process goals include continuing to get in flow/on the same page on offense (myself and as a team); continuing to refine decision-making with the disc and execution when I do throw; and dominating on defense, both when guarding players and once we get the turn.

Been feeling great lately (minor bout of shin splints at week’s start notwithstanding). First track workout (why so late?) last week, been focusing on core strength a lot so I can keep my power stable and directed. We’ll see if the fifth gear is fully back this weekend, and keep working to get that sixth one too…

AMP
Ballometrics
Flight

I’d be disappointed with anything less than a quarterfinals appearance; ideally we’re still playing for a title come Sunday afternoon.

The Dartmouth contingent rises this weekend, with fully five ’08s on tap. Expect Ballometrics to continue ascending towards the (Chesa)peak(e).

Personally, I’ve been working hard these past two weeks and after a hard few days to start the week have been taking it easy Thursday (and plan to Friday), showing up to Poolesville nice and limber and ready to ball.

The focus remains on defense, which remains my primary contribution at this point (speed is a means to an end). Lots to tighten up there still, and I can really only do it by cutting my teeth against better competition. Looking forward to denying easy Buckets and I’m getting AMP’ed up for our last game on Saturday.

Goals:

Remain focused on defense. Maintain tight margins on activated cutters, DICTATE WITH THE BODY, stay on the toes on the mark and downfield. Focus on jiving with the system and communication in zone sets.

Keep within myself throwing. Take what’s given, but focus on consistency on the easy stuff (step out, no lazy throws–take a breath on throws to women, avoid the overthrow!)

Keep the good times rolling off the field and on. Ballin.

Hopefully I can come back and update on several of the teams playing, not just my own and our opponents, but I can’t make any promises since I’ll be playing. Stay tuned.

Once more onto the field.

Pool of 5 to start means plenty of ultimate (5 games!) to be had on day 1, with a good shot at winning a first-round bye for Sunday. Schweet.

A return to Dartmouth means a return to the awesome gym I love so much; I’m just tipping the iceberg with regards to fitness right now, with loads more to come, but this week is a litmus test for game skills and field sense more than fitness. Hopefully they haven’t depreciated too much.

Can’t offer much in the way of team/tourney previews–there’s we Ballometrics, playing minus at least a few able bodies but plus at least one new one; local squad of wily townies and willing young bucks Enough Monkeys, who may, in fact, have Too Many; last time I played against 7 Express was in the finals of Ow My Knee last year, and, well, you know how that went.

In short, I’m looking forward to a return to glory on good ol’ American soil! The tournament’s local to me in (hopefully) sunny Hanover, NH, which is great since I just started at DMS and need some time to settle before I travel.

Goals/foci for the weekend (been a long time for these, it’ll be a regular through the rest of the season):

Step! On all throws

Don’t fall in love with the throws–do it with the legs!*

Back to basics on D; first, play hard dictating man-to-man. Then, look to help (phrased negatively: don’t get burned on poaches).

Communicate with the new teammates and build some chemistry!

*twofold reasoning for this goal. One, I’m returning to cutter-dom again! Oh glorious day! Two, my throws (hucks) have regressed a fair bit. Likely still workable in flow to open cutters or against teams that read this and underestimate me, but it’s a far cry from me in top form.
